Life continuing ‘as normal’ in Kharg Island, no disruption to oil exports: Iranian official

A spokesperson for Iran’s Parliament Committee on Energy has said life is continuing “as normal” on Kharg Island despite US attacks there last week and warned the US against further military action.

In comments carried by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the committee spokesperson said oil workers on the island had worked around the clock to ensure there was “no interruption in oil exports”.

“If the enemies set their sights on Kharg Island, they should know that a humiliation even greater than what they faced in the Strait of Hormuz awaits them,” added the official.

Trump administration facing messaging ‘crisis’ over Iran

Trump’s record of contradictory statements over the course of the war on Iran has become a crisis for his administration, says media studies professor Mohamad Elmasry.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Elmasry said Trump’s statements since the war began had amounted to a series of contradictions.

“At one point, he also said that ‘maybe we shouldn’t even be there’ which is a remark that has gotten a lot of negative reaction,” he said.

“[Critics] are saying if we didn’t need to be there then why are people dead? What is the purpose of this war?”

He said that remark came in the context of “weeks now of contradictions and a series of … miscommunications on the part of not just Trump but also Hegseth and other officials”.

“It’s really becoming a crisis now for the Trump administration,” he said.

The US-Israel war on Iran continues to intensify as attacks on multiple cities kill civilians, including a newborn baby and his two-year-old sister in Arak city.

The war has pushed oil prices sharply higher, disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and displaced millions of civilians across the region.

An Amnesty International investigation found that the US is responsible for the attack that killed at least 170 people, including more than 160 girls, at a primary school in Minab, Iran.

Qatar’s Defence Ministry confirmed intercepting a missile attack a few hours ago over Doha.

However, they say falling debris caused a small fire in the industrial area on the outskirts of the capital. Authorities are dealing with that at the moment. No one was injured.

There has also been more disruption across the region. The UAE’s airspace had to be closed early this morning for several hours because of warnings of missile attacks from Iran. It has now reopened, but of course major transit hubs like Dubai International Airport have had to cancel or reschedule flights, causing massive disruptions for passengers.

Authorities in Abu Dhabi also say a man has been killed as a result of debris falling from an intercepted missile. That comes after the same authorities confirmed yesterday that a Palestinian man had been killed after a rocket fell on a residential area.

These attacks from Iran are still causing a huge disruption in this region.
