Two arrested over Omanjor Homowo Festival violence

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the violence that marred the Homowo Festival at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace on Saturday, August 30, 2025, leaving three people dead and several others injured.

Police say Christian Saka Ahianyevi, 35, a private security officer, and Newton Allotey, 26, a dispatch rider, were picked up on August 30 and 31 respectively following intelligence-led operations by a team from the Regional Command and the Special Support Unit from National Headquarters.

During the arrests, officers retrieved 18 spent BB cartridges from Alotey, while Ahianyevi was found with a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits. The police confirmed that all items have been secured as evidence.

Both suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations. Meanwhile, police say they have increased security in the affected communities to prevent further unrest.

The Accra Regional Police Command urged residents and all factions involved to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. Members of the public with information on other suspects have been encouraged to contact the police through emergency lines 18555 or 191.

The Omanjor Homowo clashes erupted on Saturday during traditional celebrations, escalating into violence that claimed lives and caused panic in the area.
