Carlos Queiroz has left his role as Black Stars head coach after overseeing just five matches, ending his brief spell in charge with a 20 percent win rate.
The Portuguese coach confirmed his departure following Ghana's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing to a close a four-month contract that was primarily centred on the tournament.
Queiroz was appointed by the Ghana Football Association in April on a short-term deal that ran until August. His contract contained a performance-based extension clause, which required Ghana to reach the World Cup quarter-finals. The Black Stars' elimination in the Round of 32 meant that condition was not met.
During his time in charge, the 73-year-old recorded one win, two draws and two defeats from five matches.
His tenure began with a 1-1 draw against Wales in an international friendly before Ghana opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama. The Black Stars then held England to a goalless draw before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final Group L fixture.
Despite the loss to Croatia, Ghana advanced to the knockout stage as one of the tournament's best third-placed teams. However, the campaign came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, with Jhon Arias scoring the only goal of the match.
Across his five matches in charge, Ghana scored three goals and conceded four.
In a farewell message, Queiroz thanked the Ghana Football Association, the players, technical staff and supporters for their support during his time with the national team.
The veteran coach also expressed pride in the team's efforts, saying the Black Stars had restored respect and credibility on football's biggest stage despite falling short of their ambition of reaching the quarter-finals.
Queiroz's departure leaves the Ghana Football Association searching for a new head coach ahead of the Black Stars' 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign later this year.
