Don’t pay anyone claiming to arrange 2026 World Cup trips, Ghana sports minister warns fans

Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has warned supporters against paying money to individuals or organisations claiming they can facilitate travel arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on the growing interest surrounding Ghana’s participation at the tournament, Adams said neither the ministry nor the World Cup oversight committee had authorised any person or group to collect money or secure travel opportunities on behalf of supporters.

"Please don’t pay money to any individual or corporate body that tells you they are representing the ministry or the oversight committee," Adams said.

The minister also dismissed claims by some people that they could use personal connections within government or the ministry to facilitate travel arrangements for fans.

He further criticised ongoing demands for so-called “slots” for supporters, insisting no such allocation system exists.

Adams explained that the ministry intends to work through the National Supporters Union, following recommendations from the Justice Senyo Dzamefe Commission report, to ensure fair representation of supporters from across the country.

He urged the public to ignore individuals making promises about guaranteed travel opportunities linked to the World Cup.

Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after topping their qualifying group and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before taking on England in Boston on June 23 and Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
