A 25-year-old British flight attendant has been arrested in Dubai after sharing a photo of damage caused by a drone strike near Dubai International Airport in a private WhatsApp group, triggering legal action under the UAE’s strict cybercrime laws.
According to reports, the crew member had clicked and shared the image with colleagues while asking if it was safe to pass through the airport following the incident. Authorities later examined his phone and detained him for allegedly sharing sensitive content that could impact public security.
If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison, a fine exceeding $50,000 (around ₹40–45 lakh), and deportation.
The arrest comes amid a broader crackdown in the United Arab Emirates, where several foreign nationals have reportedly been detained for sharing images or videos related to ongoing drone and missile strikes linked to regional tensions.
Experts have warned that even private sharing of such visuals can attract serious legal consequences under UAE laws, which prohibit dissemination of content considered harmful to national security or public order.
The incident has sparked global attention, highlighting the strict enforcement of cyber laws in the region and raising concerns among travellers and expatriates about digital privacy and legal risks.
