Israel has raised concerns over Iran’s long-range missile capability, saying that its estimated 4,000-kilometre range could extend beyond the Middle East and place parts of East Africa, including Nairobi, at the outer edge of potential reach.
According to the Israeli Embassy in Kenya, the assessment is based on Iran’s evolving ballistic missile technology, which analysts say continues to expand its strategic coverage.
While cities such as Addis Ababa, Mogadishu, and Juba fall more clearly within the projected radius, Nairobi is considered to be at the fringe of the range, prompting renewed discussions on regional and global security implications.
Israeli officials, however, clarified that the statement is not meant to signal any immediate threat to Kenya, but rather to highlight how modern military advancements are reshaping global risk perceptions.
Security experts note that the development underscores how even regions far from current conflict zones are increasingly being factored into wider geopolitical calculations.
