A 43-year-old woman, Mary Agbenu Edorla, has alleged that she lost her husband of three years to a female police officer who was in charge of a case she was involved in at the Tema Katamanso Police Station.

According to Madam Edorla, her husband, Stephen Tengey, cheated on her with Detective Chief Inspector Divina Worlanyo Afenu, an officer with the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the station.

Speaking in an emotional interview with the Daily Guide, the aggrieved woman recounted that her encounter with the police officer began after a domestic help living with her family left their home following a dispute.

“The girl actually stole my money, and when I reprimanded her, she left the house to an unknown place,” Madam Edorla said.

She explained that the domestic help was later brought back by the police in the company of a neighbour, who said the girl had been found loitering around an uncompleted building.

According to the neighbour, the girl claimed her mother had threatened to assault her.

Madam Edorla said she was invited to the police station to give her statement and was asked to bring the biological parents of the domestic help. She added that the case officer requested that her husband travel to the girl’s village to bring her parents to the station, a request he complied with.

After the case was settled, Madam Edorla said she began noticing frequent phone calls from Chief Inspector Afenu to her husband, often late at night.

“Whenever I asked him, he told me it was part of their investigations,” she said, adding that she initially accepted the explanation.

However, her suspicions grew when she allegedly discovered nude photographs sent by the police officer to her husband’s phone.

“That was when I realised they were having an affair,” she said tearfully.

According to Madam Edorla, Chief Inspector Afenu initially denied the alleged relationship when she confronted her.

She said her doubts were later confirmed when she saw her husband leaving the officer’s residence one morning after spending the night there.

She further claimed that when she confronted both of them, her husband assaulted her.

“I first reported the matter to some senior officers at the station where she works, but nothing was done,” Madam Edorla stated. “So I personally reported the case to the Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Adu.”

Expressing her frustration, she said, “I introduced my husband to her while she was investigating a case I was involved in. She requested that my husband assist her with the investigations, and all I could see later was her having an affair with my husband.”

Meanwhile, the Tema Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwadwo Badu-Adu, has confirmed that the allegations against Chief Inspector Afenu have come to his attention.

According to the Daily Guide, the commander disclosed that an assault case was reported by Madam Edorla and that during investigations, the issue of the alleged affair emerged.

He stated that the DOVVSU unit at the Tema Divisional Command is currently handling the matter but noted that efforts to reach Stephen Tengey to assist with investigations have so far been unsuccessful.

The case has sparked public discussion about professional boundaries and ethics within law enforcement, as investigations into the allegations continue.
