The family of Lois Koranteng, a KNUST graduate who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a hotel in Takoradi, has accused both the Ghana Police Service and the hotel management of a cover-up.
The family is claiming serious mishandling of the investigation and misleading the public.
Ms. Koranteng, who was discovered dead on June 8, is at the centre of controversy as her family alleges that police reports falsely stated the autopsy was conducted on the same day.
The family contends that the autopsy was actually performed on June 11, raising questions about the integrity of the investigation.
Adding to their concerns, the family has criticised the police for inadequate communication and transparency.
They claim that apart from a planned visit that seemed intended to obscure investigative flaws, no substantial updates or reassurances have been given.
The family disputes the police's initial findings, which reported no blood stains on Ms. Koranteng, presenting photographic evidence of a “reddish liquid” from her nose.
The hotel's actions have also come under fire. The family challenges the hotel's assertion that its security cameras were malfunctioning at the time of Ms. Koranteng's death, providing evidence suggesting otherwise.
They question the rationale behind the hotel's dismissal of its management staff and replacement of security cameras three days after the incident.
The family further disputes the hotel’s claim that the pool guard was absent on June 7, asserting that he was indeed on duty.
In addition to these allegations, the family accuses the hotel of pressuring a female staff member to remain silent and attempting to have them remove social media posts discussing the case.
The family is also scrutinising Ms. Koranteng’s employer, alleging that the company sought her laptop password just hours after her death, which they believe raises concerns about their intentions.
They have a recorded conversation of this request and are calling for transparency from the company.
Facing a lack of satisfactory explanations, the family has warned they will release more evidence if their concerns are not properly addressed.
