Don’t pressure your husbands for 'chop money', NPP’s poor governance has dried their pockets – Opoku Agyemang

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged women, especially traders, to be patient with their husbands who are struggling to provide financial support for their businesses, attributing the issue to the country's deteriorating economic situation.

"Often, when financial institutions do not offer credit for your trade, you turn to your husbands for help, but they are unable to assist because they are either unemployed or their businesses are struggling due to the economic difficulties in the country," she explained.

"Be patient with them because it is not their fault, poor economic management has created this hardship."

Speaking to market women in Dunkwa Mfoum in the Central Region during her regional tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the challenges facing Ghanaians, particularly traders and small-scale enterprises.

She assured them that the NDC has developed measures to address the issues of poor access to credit and the high cost of doing business effectively.

As part of these measures, she announced that the next NDC government would introduce the Women’s Development Bank, aimed at providing easy access to credit without barriers such as collateral and high interest rates.

She emphasized that this initiative is one of many interventions the next NDC administration plans to implement to improve the lives of women in Ghana.

She noted that over one million women are expected to benefit from the Women’s Development Bank.

However, she reminded the women that these plans can only be realized if they vote to bring the NDC back to power.

"When women get access to funding to grow their businesses, it will positively affect men, children, and households," she stated.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also addressed the high cost of food items, which has led to reduced patronage for traders in markets across the country.

She urged the market traders to seize the opportunity to vote for change in the upcoming elections.

"You have the opportunity to vote for change," she said.

Following her visit to Dunkwa, the NDC running mate traveled to Assin Central, where she addressed a community durbar to further explain the party’s vision and plans for the area
