Rapper Meek Mill has changed his mind on how his phone went missing from his pocket upon arrival in Ghana.
News of the American music act's arrival in Ghana's capital Accra broke on Thursday, December 29, 2022.
Pictures went viral on social media of him 'popping-a-wheelie' (raising the front wheels of a motorbike while in motion) on a quad bike in the company of the Ghana DC bike stars.
Ahead of his performance at the 2022 Afro Nation festival that night, he announced on Instagram that he had been pickpocketed and had lost his phone.
"They pickpocketed me for my phone. SMH [shaking my head]. Bring that jawn [thing] back if you got it!!!" he wrote.
Friday night, December 30, the Ghana Police Service via social media brought to the notice of the public the recovery of the phone and the arrest of the suspected thief.
The suspect's name was revealed as "Nuhu Sule alias Ababaawa," who "was arrested Friday, December 30, 2022, at his hideout in Accra."
The police also indicated Nuhu Sule would "be taken through the due process of the law," while in police custody.
The news has been ill-received by Meek Mill, however.
After midnight, Saturday, December 31, he tweeted that instead of his initial suspicion of being a pickpocket's victim, it is possible he could have "dropped the phone on a dirt bike."
"I don't actually know for a fact [if] somebody went in[to] my pocket!" he added.
He was categorical in saying he does not wish anyone incarcerated over the incident.
"I don't need anybody locked up for a phone," he explained.
What matters to the Dream Chasers record label founder is he "got it [phone] back. That's all I needed."
His audience under the tweet have reacted diversely.
Jay Sully opined the goings-on was all an overreaction.
Any who finds a lost item should not keep it, Criss Cross stressed.
Arrest and possible incaceration will be a good lesson for the suspect, said Sheila Bi Kwei.
An App user with the handle 'Sua Nyansa [Learn Wisdom] 1' admonished Meek for being too quick to cry foul when he could not find the cell phone.
"This is kindness," John Newmann said.
Manni Milli charged that it was perhaps too late and that the Philadelphia-native had already added to the negative views held about Africa.
Collins Asaimah beseeched Meek Mill to intervene before the suspect is put away "for years."
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old rapper born Robert Rihmeek Williams, has today, Sunday, December 31, stated that Ghana, formerly called 'The Gold Coast' has shown him "the most love I've ever felt at once!!! Thank you."
In May 2020, Meek Mill had tweeted he wanted to go to Ghana but only after some unspecified things had been resolved.
On Wednesday, October 12, 2022, Afro Nation announced he would be headlining the music festival alongside Davido and P-Square at the Marine Drive, Black Star Square, Accra.
