
Ghanaian artiste Vanilla has been crowned the artiste of the year at the 2022 Emerging Music Awards.
He beat competition from Prophet Joseph Atarah, Long Life, Abbi Ima, Xupa, Ekow Marvel, Skannah, Best Gally, Jay Baba and Buzu Wani.
Last year, Black Sherif won the award.
Vocalist Evans ‘Vanilla’ Kwasi Boadi Boateng also was named the Songwriter of the Year for penning the ‘Prayer’ song, beating the likes of Ekow Marvel, Magnus, Xupa, Portia Kay, Yaw Kwakye, Mama Boat, Khofy Guyson and KDM.
In an exclusive interview with Class News’ Prince Benjamin (PB) on Sunday, 30 October 2022, the Ghanaian artiste expressed how he feels about the 2022 Emerging Music Awards victory.
“I feel like I’m doing something right and that I’m on the right course. I feel ready for the bigger award stages also,” he said.
He also noted the significance of the trophies: “More recognition, more ears and attention. And also people will expect big things from me and want me to prove myself. Especially those who don’t know me. I see it as an opportunity to win more people over to my side.”
The EMA honours come after a prestigious Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA) nomination in this year’s Unsung category.
On Saturday, 22 October 2022, Vanilla told sit-in host PB on Class 91.3 FM’s The Big Show that all this recognition has been possible "a year and some months" after signing to Bullhaus Entertainment because his manager, Bullgod, the founder of Bullhaus, “has the Midas touch” and “I am also really talented so it makes it easy.”

The 2022 Emerging Music Awards (EMAs), ran under the theme ‘Give the Music a Chance’, and was organised by Kusstar Entertainment in partnership with Kri8 Concept to recognise hardworking up-and-coming musicians in Ghana’s music industry.
The fourth edition of the EMAs, 29 rising musicians in the music industry.
Meanwhile, Vanilla is currently promoting his new song titled ‘Lala’.
