Traders at the Kumasi Racecourse Market in Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti region have threatened to boycott payment of tax over the deplorable nature of the market road.
The aggrieved traders said the road is not the only infrastructure deteriorated but also the market.
Some of them who spoke to Class News’ Elisha Adarkwah, said they have been left to their fate despite a promise by the KMA to develop the market when they were being evacuated from the main central market.
Despite channeling their confrontations to the necessary authorities, the traders said they have reneged on their numerous promises to fix the road and develop the market.
While expressing disappointment in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, as well as the government, the Bayerehemaa of the Ashanti region, Nana Yaa Foriwah said they lost their capital a year after they were relocated to the market.
Observing one year of their relocation from the Central Market to the Racecourse Market on Tuesday, 13 September 2022, she said due to the bad nature of the road, business activities in the market have been hampered.
She, therefore, on behalf of the traders, gave the KMA up to the end of this month (September) to fix the road and develop the market else they will stop paying taxes to the Assembly
