Deputy General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor has disclosed that he has the ambition to take over from his boss, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
Speaking to Akoma FM in an interview, Peter Boamah Otokunor noted that despite his dream, he will only make that bold step if Johnson Asiedu Nketia decides he will no longer vie for the General Secretary position.
“Though I have high interest in the secretary position, I will only contest if, only if, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia our General Secretary decides to stay aside, but I have clear indication that Mr. Asiedu Nketia may not go for the secretary position so all things being equal I will contest for the position,” Otokunor shared.
According to Peter Boamah Otokunor, his victory is already assured after receiving the endorsement from the grassroots of the party.
He stressed, “Nothing can obstruct our victory when the time comes for the national executive contest because the grassroots have endorsed me and they themselves have urged me to proceed to the substantive General Secretary position when Mr. Asiedu Nketia decides to disembark on that lane”.
The NDC has been in opposition since 2017 and hopes to return to power after the next general elections scheduled for December 2024.
The party will soon go to the polls to elect executives to lead the party in the quest to unseat the ruling government.
