LIVE UPDATES: PRESS BRIEFING AS GHANA CONFIRMS 550 NEW CASES OF CORONAVIRUS

The Ministry of Information holds a press briefing at its Press Centre, Accra, to update the general public about the country’s surveillance and case management; guidelines on masks; and progress on RDT testing plans.

Ghana saw a significant increase in the number of cases on Monday as 550 new infections were announced by the Ghana Health Service (GHS). The tally, thus, leaped from 2,169 to 2,719. Out of the total number of cases, 294 have recovered while 18 have died.

The escalation has triggered questions with many wondering if the cases are backlog of laboratory samples.

After government ordered compulsory wearing of nose mask as it intensifies the fight against the pandemic, variations of the commodity have flooded the markets. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) subsequently warned of potential danger as inferior and unapproved nose masks were on sale.

It has also been reported that some persons have been wearing the nose mask wrongly and risk contracting the disease.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is expected to moderate the press briefing as usual.
