CORONAVIRUS: WHAT KWAHU EASTER 2020 LOOKED LIKE

Undisputedly the most packed place at this time of the year. Easter in Ghana is more often than not, equated to celebrations in Kwahu in the Eastern Region.

In fact, most people’s response to ‘how are you marking the Easter festivities would get you this response; “Easter di3, 3noa ne Kwahu’, to wit, ‘Easter is all about Kwahu’.

Things took a completely different turn in Kwahu this time. With the outbreak of Coronavirus, its spread and subsequent stringent measures government has had to adopt to stem and contain the situation, the place was virtually a ‘ghost town’.

The partial lockdown in Greater Accra and the Ashanti Region, meant that people will have to stay in their homes. Aside this, there is a nationwide ban on social gatherings, as well as a social distancing order which translates that people cannot have their usual get togethers, picnics, etc. on the mountain top.

So it was, the taxi ranks were empty, popular eateries barely had any humans, and the streets were all quiet with a very calm atmosphere.

A tour by Ghanaweb’s correspondent, McAnthony Dagyenga to some places in the area revealed that Easter celebrations had generally been shifted to 2021.

According to most of the residents, businesses have generally been down and they have had to halt operations, hoping to have a double-packed Easter season in the coming year.
